A new London-based search engine has announced that it will donate 50 per cent of its gross revenue to charity every month.
According to Everyclick, if just ten supporters from each of the 188,000 UK registered charities used the website, £22 million could be raised in the first year of operation alone.
Everyclick.com operates in much the same way as other search engines, providing full search results, images, news feeds and special features.
Web users can register to ensure than the money they generate through using the website goes to their selected charity. Funds generated by people who do not register a particular charity will be distributed pro rata to all the charities signed up with Everyclick, which range from Save the Children to The Meningitis Trust and Hope HIV.
Polly Gowers, managing director of Everyclick.com, said: "We're hoping that Everyclick.com will capture the public imagination and become a big hit. It's one of those small changes everyone can make that add up to a real, lasting difference."
A new marketing campaign, created by ArthurSteenHorneAdamson, has been launched to promote the charity donation initiative and the website, complete with press, online ads, postcards, mouse stickers and pens featuring the strapline "Give your mouse a heart".
The website has been developed over 18 months by Ms Gowers, finance director Julia Fenton, and non-executive director Michael Howes.
Everyclick only provides funds for listed charities and non-exclusive agreements have been drawn up to ensure compliance with the 1992 Charities Act.
