Google is 'top search engine for professionals'
15 June 2005
Google is the search engine of choice for professionals, a new study shows.
Research by ChangeWave found that 78 per cent of 1,440 professionals surveyed said that they used Google as their primary toolbar, compared with just 14 per cent for Yahoo!
The survey also found that Google is also the most popular toolbar in home browsers/applications, chosen by 38 per cent of respondents compared with 28 per cent for Yahoo!
However, the Washington-based research company reports that Yahoo! is the most popular homepage site and the primary website for online news and information, used by 32 per cent of respondents, compared with ten per cent for MSN, eight per cent using CNN and just five per cent choosing Google.
When asked if they use more Google products/services than a year ago, 52 per cent of respondents said yes, compared to one per cent who said no, while 31 per cent said they used more Yahoo! services than a year ago and eight per cent less.
ChangeWave claims that its "Yahoo vs Google" survey shows that "the two online champions are embroiled in a slugfest across multiple product/service areas in their high-stakes contest for domination of the internet."
The study reveals that both search giants generate almost identical annual revenue - $4 billion for Yahoo! and $3.8 billion for Google over the past 12 months. Yahoo! beat Google as overall favourite website, named by 32 per cent of respondents, compared to Google's 17 per cent.
