Boost for US online advertising
23 February 2005
Online advertising in the US is continuing to show rocketing growth, according to the latest figures for 2004.
A report from the Interactive Advertising Bureau and PricewaterhouseCoopers suggests advertisers spent over $10 billion (£5.24 billion) on internet advertising last year, which represents the highest spend in the sector since the dotcom boom of five years ago.
Spending grew at a rate which far outpaced the overall ad market, with a growth in online spend of 32 per cent, compared to an industry total of just a 5.6 per cent rise.
The figures highlight the massive interest from businesses in harnessing the power of the online industry, largely due to the penetration that it offers for businesses to reach a much wider audience.
As the US market continues to flourish, it is expected that the UK and European markets will also follow suit, so that online ad spend across the globe in the next few years will continue to grow at a remarkable rate.
