Overture urged to rival Google
23 February 2005
The head of business research services firm Growthink has called on overture.com to make a big splash in the search marketing arena and offer serious rivalry to www.google.co.uk.
Growthink president Dave Lavinsky has claimed that Overture could provide a real alternative to search giant Google for advertisers and businesses, claiming that it already offers its clients pay-per-click (PPC) returns at least as good as Google.
Mr Lavinsky says it is now time for Overture to remove the strict limitations it has imposed on itself which are hampering its development by preventing the vast majority of websites enrolling on its contextual advertising offering.
Overture limits its contextual advertising program to websites generating more than 1 million web searches a month, but Mr Lavinsky argues that, by opening up it service to all websites, it could become a serious competitor to Google's current supremacy and therefore help to drive the continuing and long-lasting interest in the online advertising industry.
