Microsoft to unveil RSS aggregator
16 January 2005
Microsoft is reportedly quietly readying itself to launch a new RSS aggregation and blog search.
The software giant's new offering is believed to feature aggregation and search to My MSN.
eWeek claims that an MSN spokeswoman told the website that MSN is planning to release a beta of a Really Simple Syndication aggregation feature for users of its My MSN personalised homepage service.
Microsoft has been developing the new service in partnership with Moreover Technologies.
MSN Search is publishing its feeds in RSS 2.0, and the My MSN service will support all versions of RSS as well as the alternative Atom format.
"RSS is getting a lot of traction and we see it as a great tool for people to gain immediacy when it comes to information," said Brooke Richardson, MSN lead product manager.
MSN has declined to reveal exactly when the RSS aggregator will be released.
Meanwhile, MSN Search has started an experimental feature for subscribing to search queries using RSS.
RSS is a range of XML syndication formats used by bloggers and web publishers to quickly share new content posted to their sites.
