Eurekster and Friendster partner on personalised search

Free online community Friendster has reportedly launched a Eurekster-powered internet search application.

The new offering uses existing community and social networking technologies to help personalise results.
Friendster Search, powered by Eurekster, filters search query results by personal preferences and interests, as well as those of linked friends and colleagues.

Results returned due to an association with a friend's interests get smiley faces stuck next to them. The new function also informs Friendster users of "What's Hot" among their network of friends, alerting them to new web destinations and topics of interest.

The personalised internet search and navigation services are available on Friendster networks in eight countries. The new search functionality continuously learns from the search behaviour of Friendster users and their social networks and users can privately share their knowledge and experiences with each other. Friendster has more than 13 million users.

"This launch of Friendster Search powered by Eurekster truly furthers our vision of sharing the internet with your friends. Friendster members are now able to easily find the Web destinations and information that matters most to them and their social networks," said Scott Sassa, Friendster president and CEO.

"This alliance clearly demonstrates one of the many ways social networking can enhance the internet experience for millions of users, while generating multiple revenue streams."

Eurekster uses Yahoo's web index and includes Overture sponsored listings. Eurekster's unique SearchMemory capability "remembers" the sites that users and their network of contacts have searched for and found useful, and surfaces them to the top for future searches.
