13 December 2004
America Online is now offering a beta version of its desktop search utility.
The new search offering is powered by Copernic and the download is available to all AOL members.

Internet giant Yahoo has also recently unveiled a new partnership with X1 to provide desktop search utilities in January 2005. Yahoo's free software will help people search the contents of their hard drive for music, email, photos and more than 225 file types.
Microsoft plans to introduce a test version of its desktop search application in the this week to announce a new MSN service, while Ask Jeeves intends to debut its desktop search software on Wednesday. Google launched its desktop search beta two months ago.
