AOL teams up to offer degrees
7 December 2004
Internet giant America Online and ClassesUSA, the leading online higher education portal, have joined forces to offer a wide-ranging directory of online degree and certificate programs to AOL members.
The directory, part of AOL Research & Learn, features courses from more than 100 of the United States' top accredited colleges and universities.
The partnership, part of an overall revamp of the Research & Learn site, also provides AOL members access to content and in-depth articles about online degrees, financial aid and accreditation.
"The online classroom offers flexibility and accessibility to students of any age, particularly those who work full-time, who are stay-at-home parents, who don't want to relocate, or who live and work abroad," said Martin Moe, vice president of AOL life management.
"At AOL, we're focused on making the lives of our members easier and more rewarding, and this partnership with ClassesUSA helps us fulfill that mission."
For ClassesUSA.com, based in Staten Island, NY, the AOL partnership is its most significant deal to date, according to its CEO, Jordon Keltz.
The online education industry is now worth an estimated $5 billion a year and education research firm Eduventures predicts that more than one million students will enrol in online learning programs by 2005.
