Kazaa offers free internet phone calls
30 November 2004
The Kazaa file-sharing site is now offering free Internet-based phone calls.
Kazaa, once regarded as the largest file-swapping community, is currently facing increasing pressure to retain its customer base and a number of suits from the recording industry over file-sharing.
The offering, in a software upgrade last week, comes as Kazaa's maker, Sharman Networks, faces increasing pressure to retain its user base.
Internet-based phone calls travel in data packets online, rather than using analogue telephone lines.
The internet phone service is expected to be included in a Kazaa upgrade release later this week.
