Ask Jeeves butler in Thanksgiving parade
26 November 2004
Search firm Ask Jeeves' 'butler' logo was featured in this year's Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade.
An estimated 2.5 million people see the parade in person and around 44 million are expected to watch the NBC television broadcast.
The giant Jeeves in balloon form reflected the character's recent makeover and appeared tan, trim and wearing a new suit.
The butler balloon is 39 feet tall, 70 feet long and 25 feet wide and takes 50 people to operate it. The Ask Jeeves contribution to the annual parade also featured numerous costumed butlers handing out hot chocolate drinks to the crowd.
"We're an everyday search engine and this seems like a perfect spot for us," said Marcos Sorensen, who came up with the butler for Ask Jeeves. "Ours is the most enduring of the balloons from the internet."
The New York City based parade is a long-running tradition in the US. Ask Jeeves was the only internet company featured in this year's parade.
