Netriplex launches anti-phishing product

Anti-spam technology provider Netriplex has unveiled its new PhishFraud detection service.

The new software, aimed at banking, credit card and online retail customers worldwide, is free of charge and utilises the anti-fraud technology featured in Netriplex's business-class spam filtering solution.

"When phishing scams began to erupt through email, Netriplex engineers developed the anti-fraud technology that effectively protects all of our anti-spam clients," Jonathan Hoppe, chief technology officer at Netriplex, said.

"Phishing" emails attempt to fool recipients into divulging personal data, such as account usernames and passwords, social security numbers and bank details.

Data from Gartner research firm suggests that five per cent of the recipients of the spam emails, which can masquerade as legitimate banking sites, respond to them and three per cent reveal personal information.

"Now that phishing attacks are doubling every month and costing US consumers nearly $3 billion per year, we want to make that technology available free to the public through our PhishFraud.com detection service," Mr Hoppe added.

Netriplex is a privately held provider of Anti-Spam, Remote Data Backup and eBusiness Hosting Solutions with its headquarters located in Boston, Massachusetts.

The sophistication of phishing attacks is increasing dramatically. For example, the new "no-click" phishing scam uses a hidden script to redirect victims to a fraudulent website designed to capture their log-in details.
