Yahoo! teams up with Adobe

Adobe Systems Inc and Yahoo Inc! have announced that they have teamed up to combine Adobe services with Yahoo's web search functions.

Pam Deziel, a director of product marketing at Adobe, said that a co-branded Yahoo/Adobe Toolbar has been launched, providing access to both companies' products.

The joint product will allow users to search for information in Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) documents posted on the web.

The two companies will introduce integrated products that feature Adobe services, significantly increasing the reach of Yahoo! Search and expanding the online utility of Adobe Reader.

The California-based firms revealed that the toolbar will allow users in the future to convert web-based content into PDF. PDF is the primary standard for sharing electronic files.

"Adobe and Yahoo! share a common vision for providing consumers with services that help them get the most out of using the internet," said Shantanu Narayen, Adobe Systems executive vice president of Worldwide Products. "Combining Yahoo!'s leadership in delivering content and services online with the ubiquitous Adobe Reader, Adobe and Yahoo! will bring a new level of simplicity and relevance to online services."

A future release of Adobe Reader, Adobe's universal client software for viewing and interacting with Adobe PDF files, will feature Yahoo! Search as the default internet search. Over half-a-billion copies of Adobe Reader software have been distributed to date and the Yahoo! is a leading internet brand.
