GoHook unveils 600,000 PDF database
13 October 2004
A California-based internet firm has developed a database of nearly 600,000 PDF documents targeted at the legal, educational, librarian and government audiences.
Privately-held GoHook has a combined coding and systems analysis experience of over fifty years and has used a familiar web search engine interface to enable users to search for documents in PDF (Portable Document Format), HTML or ASCII text.
"We give the user four options," Robert Keller, a partner at GoHook, explained. "Other sites may link to PDF documents, but we assure the availability and ease of search. We go beyond other search engines."
In addition to the link, GoHook stores the converted HTML, ASCII text and PDF files, so the user can always retrieve their information, even if the original site is down or defunct.
The GoHook site enables users to link to source documents on the original site, convert PDF documents into HTML, simple ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange), viewable with any text editor, and archive documents for years.
The GoHook Website adds over 10,000 documents per week and forecasts one million documents in early 2005.
GoHook's search, retrieval and archive features are already implemented in other locations, with more installations in-progress. Most searches return results in under two seconds.
