Kayak.com travel engine unveiled

A new online travel venture called Kayak.com has been launched as a public beta testing version.

The new search engine crawls a wide variety of 60 travel providers' sites and presents the results in a matrix.

The new travel search site is the brainchild of a team of former executives from online travel websites Orbitz, Travelocity, Intuit and Expedia.

Kayak.com does not sell a product, but instead offers a comprehensive search engine that scours over 60 online travel sites, providing prices and itineraries for more than 550 airlines and 85,000 hotels.

Kayak.com's results page displays more choice of available itinerary/price combinations than any other online travel site and is the only travel search engine that lets the consumer choose where to purchase the preferred itinerary, the company's founders claim.

"Kayak.com will become the savvy travellers' most useful resource for making informed decisions during their travel planning," said Steve Hafner, co-founder and CEO. "We created the site to meet the needs of today's consumers who are frustrated by having to search multiple sites to find the best deal. With just one click, visitors to Kayak.com will be able to see prices and services in real-time from over 60 leading travel sites."

Kayak.com also allows travellers to post and view ratings and reviews and access information from other respected travel sources like Frommer's and Fodor's and remembers most recent searches and airport preferences.

The new internet travel "Dream Team", Kayak Software Corp, includes Steve Hafner, co-Founder and CEO of Orbitz Inc, Paul English, co-Founder and chief technical officer of Intuit, Terry Jones, chairman of the board of Travelocity, and Expedia director Greg Slyngstad.
