Dogpile changes name to WebFetch
16 September 2004
Meta search engine Dogpile has reportedly decided to change their name to WebFetch.
The decision, believed to be in response to the linguistic implications of Dogpile, is intended for the company's European and UK search sites.
In America, Dogpile will maintain its name, according to website PCPro.com.
To celebrate this change, Dogpile owner and operator InfoSpace has introduced a new design featuring the mascot dog chasing a ball painted as the Union Jack.
InfoSpace said in a statement: "The new name has wider international comprehension, while maintaining a strong association with its ever-popular cult dog mascot - Arfie."
The search results produced by WebFetch will remain the same as Dogpile, providing an amalgamation of the most popular search engine results from leading websites such as Google, Yahoo and Ask.
