AOL signs up Girafa for images
17 August 2004
America Online has signed a deal with Girafa to use its thumbnail search images on CompuServe, Netscape, AIM and ICQ.
Girafa's service provides search users with thumbnail-sized images of webpages alongside the standard textual search results. The images aim to help users find relevant results faster.
Under the agreement, Girafa's thumbnail service will be available to tens of millions of Netscape, CompuServe, AIM and ICQ users.
"Girafa is excited to be working with such prominent online services and to be contributing to the creation of a superior search experience," said Eldad Barnoon, Girafa.com CEO. "Being able to offer a service that improves user satisfaction on the one hand, and increases search revenue on the other, is very rewarding."
"Netscape is pleased to further enhance the quality of our search results using Girafa images and technology. Giving users a quick visual snapshot of the Web sites in their search results is one more way that Netscape continues to improve to meet the needs of our users," added Jeremy Liew, senior VP and general manager of Netscape.
AskJeeves and Viewpoint have also unveiled similar offerings this year.
