Yahoo Japan switches to Overture

3 June 2004

Yahoo! Japan has announced that it will now be using Yahoo! Search Technology for its algorithmic web search instead of Google.

Yahoo also revealed on June 1st that it has decided that Overture will be sole provider of all its commercial keyword search results in Japan.

Previously, sponsored search results by Overture were displayed on Yahoo! Japan in rotation with results served by other commercial search companies.

The web firm announced on May 31st that Google would be dropped from the Japanese version of its portal and replaced with its own search algorithm.

Yahoo removed Google from its US search engine earlier this year in favour of their own algorithm, and looks set to continue switching over its regional portals.
