Google launches own blog
12 May 2004
Google officially launched its own corporate web log this week.
The blog aims to promote Google's revamped web log service, Blogger, and will attempt to capture the informal style of a typical web log.
Google Blog will be written by the people at Google using Blogger and enables Google users to "Get the latest word direct from the Googleplex about new technology, hot issues, and the wide world of search."
"We're going to post stuff here, regular bloggy things," Evan Williams, Google's Blogger program manager, wrote. "What Larry had for breakfast. What Sergey thinks of that Hellboy movie. Which Dawson's Creek character reminds us most of Eric."
Larry and Sergey are Google's founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin and Eric refers to former CEO Eric Schmidt, now chair of Google's executive committee.
Spokesman David Krane said that the search company is excited about the project, adding: "We're big fans of blogging, and we believe blogs are an especially effective way of connecting directly to people and communities. We hope our users will find the Google Blog to be informative, fun and entertaining."
The popularity of blogs has spread over the past few years, as technology has made it easier for new users to post online diaries.
