Google nets Dutch AdWords deal
6 May 2004
Netherlands-based online classifieds site Marktplaats has signed an agreement with Google to distribute AdWords on Marktplaats.nl and other websites in the Netherlands and abroad.
Google fended off competition from Overture for the deal, which will see Google use its AdSense software together with its search engine to offer Marktplaats users advertisement links both on the search result pages and any content pages accessed.
Furthermore, sponsored links will also appear alongside the various ad categories on the websites.
Google's search engine will trawl information on both the actual site and external sites.
Through Marktplaats, Google AdWords will be distributed in the Netherlands, Canada, Germany, Spain and Turkey via Marktplaats.
In addition to searching through information on the actual site on which it is deployed, Google's search engine will also trawl information on external sites.
According to the Marktplaats' services director, Frank Crebas, the agreement with Google will help a planned expansion of the company's site, which will allow providers to advertise and sell travel services.
Korean portal Empas has also agreed to distribute Google's AdWords on its website.
