Looksmart returns as UK Directory
23 April 2004
Search company LookSmart has been relaunched as UK Directory (ukdirectory.co.uk) today.
The move follows a successful buyout of LookSmart's remaining UK assets, including its directory and domain name, by UK Net Guide at the beginning of this month.
LookSmart's UK operation, the company's only European venture, closed in January this year, following the loss of global client, key distribution partner, and chief revenue source, MSN.
Paul Mead, head of sales at UK Net Guide, said: "The LookSmart deal and its relaunch as UK Directory demonstrates our commitment to the philosophy of using human editors to guide users to the most relevant sites. Our directory-based model allows the targeting of very specific categories ensuring maximum ROI."
Paul Siminsky, chief executive officer of LookSmart International, added: "We are pleased to announce this handover to UK Net Guide as a reputable online publisher with a similar website model to LookSmart."
UK Net Guide will develop the LookSmart database of around 180,000 human reviewed websites in 34,000 categories alongside its existing product:
LookSmart was previously BT LookSmart until the partnership amicably dissolved when BT decided to concentrate on its core activities.
