Internet searches personalised by Jeeves
21 September 2004
The third largest US Internet search provider has launched a new product to help users personalise searches.
Ask Jeeves has launched a new service which it claims will make searching the Internet far easier and quicker for users.
In an attempt to gain ground on industry leaders Yahoo and Google, the creation of MyJeeves will enable searchers to compile search queries and results which can be saved, sorted into folders, annotated and even shared.
Jim Lanzone, senior vice president of search properties at Ask Jeeves described the new product as "creating your own personal Web".
MyJeeves comes amid intense competition between search engine providers seeking to provide better results for consumers who can then be targeted with advertising.
Online retailer Amazon.com recently launched its new service, enabling users to keep track of their past searches so as to help them search better.
However, there is a long way to go to catch up with the leading two companies.
Recent research by comScore Media Metrix suggests Google handles around 36 per cent of Internet searches, while Yahoo is just behind with 29 per cent of the market.
