Browser's failings exposed
5 July 2004
Microsoft's market leading browser, Internet Explorer, has been rebuked for its "lack of security" against hackers.
The web browser, which is utilised by an estimated 95 per cent of Internet users, has been criticised by a specialist US based group, who advise the US Government on IT issues.
The US Computer Emergency Response Team claims that the software, which comes as standard on PCs, contains a number of flaws which have left it open to corruption by criminals or 'spammers'.
The team warned that the software has "significant vulnerabilities in technologies".
Neil Barrett, security consultant of Information Risk Management, which carries out internet security audits of companies and software, told The Independent: "There are presently more than 30 attacks that it's vulnerable to which haven't been fixed by Microsoft."
