Ask Jeeves announces 125mb of free e-mail storage
24 June 2004
Ask Jeeves has announced it is offering 125 megabytes of free e-mail storage on its three portal brands.
The move follows Yahoo's announcement a week ago that it would offer 100 megabytes of free storage.
Offering email has become an urgent priority for search engines that seek ways to keep customers in their sites longer.
According to MercuryNews, it is necessary to keep customers loyal in anticipation of the launch of Microsoft's search engine, which is expected soon.
In offering the free storage Ask Jeeves is taking on Google who recently unveiled its own e-mail intuitive, GMail, offering a full gigabyte of storage.
GMail, has however received criticism for its model of searching the e-mail content to run advertising alongside it.
Ask Jeeves' My Way portal offers its free e-mail without advertising, making it the only such service available, according to Scott Garell, Executive Vice President of Sites and Search for Ask Jeeves.
