Ask Jeeves says goodbye to pogo-sticking
21 June 2004
Ask Jeeves has announced new features designed to help Internet users find information more quickly.
According to Reuters, the new "binoculars" feature allows searchers to view sites on those sites without clicking though to them.
When the user clicks on the binoculars icon that appears next to the search results a snapshot view of the site is brought up enabling users to decide it the site contains the relevant information.
"The binoculars feature allows users to say good-bye to pogo-sticking; that time-consuming process of repeatedly returning to the results page," said Senior Vice President of Search Properties Jim Lanzone.
According to an independent user study by VenTest, binoculars reduced the number of clicks required to find relevant results by 50 to 70 per cent.
The search engine has also announced new "Smart Search" categories including movies, people search and definitions.
