Yahoo beats Google rivals at CNN
14 May 2004
Yahoo has taken over from Google to power CNN's online search engine.
The deal means that a Yahoo subsidiary will provide the algorithmic and paid results for users of the news network's website.
The CNN portal is the most visited network of sites in the United States.
Yahoo's subsidiary, Overture Services, took over the running of the site on Wednesday.
Rival Google had been previously supplying the CNN website with results and the switch to Overture highlights the increasing competition between the two Internet companies.
The rivalry has intensified as Google moves towards its public offering and expands into new areas, such as email and mailing list groups, that compete directly with Yahoo.
