Yahoo begins beta testing on new news search
18 March 2004
Yahoo has announced that beta testing on Yahoo News 2.0, a new news search engine, is underway.
The internet giant revealed that the new service, unlike the current Yahoo News, draws in news stories from thousands of online news sources indexed by Yahoo.
The news search now combines articles from Yahoo News and over 7,500 crawled news sources across the internet, with the content refreshing throughout the day.
News results can be sorted by relevance and date, with each headline linking to the publisher's page and the new service now looks like a search result page.
The News Search option appears as a tab on the Yahoo.com search window and allows users to switch between web searches and a more targeted news search.
Yahoo News Search also offers email updates about breaking news and specific subjects. An Advanced News Search option enables users to find sites that match very specific criteria, including combinations of words or results in a specific language.
