Weight Watchers ousts Atkins as number one diet search
16 March 2004
Weight watchers achieved its highest ranking ever in the Lycos 50 for the week ending March 13th, 2004.
The slimming group came in at number five, one place ahead of rival Atkins Diet at six. It is the first time in two years that Weight Watchers has beaten the Atkins Diet in the poll and the highest place it has ever achieved in the Lycos 50.
The Lycos 50 is a list of the top fifty searches made on Lycos each week and provides a good indicator of popular web search trends.
Global internet group Lycos also revealed that online interest in Nipplegate and Janet Jackson is finally beginning to die down, with the singer falling out of the top ten to 15 for the first time since she bared her breast during the Super Bowl half-time show.
Online interest in Mel Gibson's religious flick, The Passion of the Christ, dropped off, with the film at number 18 in the Lycos 50.
Other favourite searches included New York socialite Paris Hilton at number one, Clay Aiken in second place, followed by Britney Spears (three), music download site KaZaA (fourth), Pamela Anderson at seven, Las Vegas(eight), WWE at nine and kids fad Dragonball at number ten.
UK model Katie Price, aka Jordan, continues to move her way up the Lycos list, falling just short of the top fifty in March.
