Thirty-nine per cent of Americans use search engines
3 March 2004
A massive 39 per cent of all Americans use search engines, a new survey claims.
According to data from Nielsen//NetRatings, 114.5 million Americans, or 76 per cent of the active online US population spends an average of nearly forty minutes using search engines each month.
The study predicts that this figure will increase sharply in the next three years, leading to a significant rise in paid search advertising.
The report found that the top five search destinations in the US during January 2004 were Google (59 million visitors), Yahoo! Search (46 million), MSN Search (45 million), AOL Search (23 million), and Ask Jeeves (13 million).
Jason Levin, analyst, Nielsen//NetRatings, commented: 'Search engines continue to be the primary tool people use to navigate the Web.
'With the big search players having recently updated their search capabilities, internet users should expect to find even better search results from the major search engines in the near future.'
