Google founder refuses to confirm IPO plans
27 February 2004
Google co-founder Larry Page is refusing to discuss the search engine's possible initial public offering.
The Internet boss said he and the other Google executives had made no statements relating to an IPO and he was 'dismayed' by the rumours flying about, Reuters reports.
Mr Page told the news agency at a press conference in California: 'I have been a bit dismayed at the level of speculation that has been reported as fact ... Even when we don't do anything in some area, people make stuff up.'
'Our pressing focus for the last five years has been search and we will continue with this. You have to realize that there has been a huge increase in the size of information out there,' 31-year-old Mr Page added.
Google Inc has been widely expected to float its shares this year, following increased competition in the Internet search business.
