Users making more complex searches
3 February 2004
A new study has found more users are conducting multiple word Internet searches, with two and three word searches becoming the norm.
The study conducted by OneStat, a Web analytics firm from the Netherlands found nearly 33 per cent of 2 million web searchers used two word queries and 26 per cent used three word queries.
According to OneStat, Internet users are getting increasingly sophisticated in web searching and being more specific with their searches, reports DM News.
From April 2003, the use of two word phrases increased by 3.4 per cent, whilst one word searches decreased by 5.7 per cent.
Search engines are now trying to provide more paid for links for multiple word queries, less popular for keyword bidders, and thought to yield more qualified leads as they are more specific.
Tools have now been applied by search engines such as Google and FindWhat that expand on advertisers' bids to capture more relevant queries.
Google for example now includes a broad match option that matches keywords with misspellings and different word orders, as well as including related searches.
