Yahoo! sales staff boost aiming to increase use of online ads
3 February 2004
Yahoo! UK and Ireland has revealed it has launched a new team to deal with media agencies and doubled its sales staff, in a bid to increase the use of online advertising in major brand campaigns.
The agency team was created after consultations with media expert Chris Marston and consists of members from companies such as Viacom, with Richard Stokes, a former group account manager from Initiative Media as head of sales planning.
Within the planning arm of the team are OMD, Initiative, Universal McCann and ZenithOptimedia.
National sales director of Yahoo! UK and Ireland, Alison Reay, told Revolution: 'We want our own sales operation to reflect that of traditional media companies by inputting our own strategists into the planning process, especially as we know that online is becoming increasingly important and effective for wider brand campaigns, in addition to traditional direct response.'
According to Yahoo! in 2003, of the top 100 agencies, 62 booked on the site compared to 40 the year before.
