Broadband video service to come to UK with new Freeserve deal
30 January 2004
Internet service provider Freeserve has joined forces with Maven Networks, trialling broadband video content services in the UK.
Part of the Wanadoo group, Freeserve said the network's system provided it with the necessary production, content management and delivery platforms needed to deliver a new generation of premium content services to subscribers.
By working with Maven, Freeserve claimed it would be able to create the software it wanted and make it cost effective.
The service will be tested with a choice group of premium content partners, e-commerce providers and advertisers, with a potential roll out to Wanadoo subscribers across Europe, according to net imperative.
Maven claims the system offers a programming experience that 'rivals the visual and entertainment qualities of television' and creates potential for profitable new revenue streams for ISPs.
Details of which partners will be involved or what content will be focused on have not yet been revealed.
This proposed move is just another example in the current aim of ISPs to find new ways of differentiating their services from one another.
