Flight info a click away on search sites
12 January 2004
As part of a plan to lure more visitors, search engines Yahoo and Google are offering search tricks to get access to flight information.
Able to search for flight information straight from the search box, Yahoo started its service on Friday, whilst Google created a technology shortcut for users to find information on domain names and their owners and shopping related listings from froogle.com its e-commerce reference site.
These latest shortcuts including a new dictionary search and tool for finding packages in shipping cycles are part of a whole host of technology advancements in web navigation.
All these changes are in a bid to stop people having to search numerous web sites to find what they want, the idea being if a search engine can be the quickest people will return to use their site.
The challenge for Yahoo and Google will be to inform their users on how to use each of their search items, as they require different types of commands.
Other examples of innovation are tools to retrieve weather and solve maths equations, with Google now offering a toolbar to search movies and Yahoo providing a feature which allows people to call up Yellow Pages listings.
