New online parenting tool established
2 January 2004
The government has given the Parentline Plus charity telephone advice service £1 million to establish an online version of its helpline.
It means parents will soon be able to use internet to obtain advice on raising their children.
Announcing the planned web-based service, the children's minister Margaret Hodge explained that 'good parenting' could improve school performance by 10 per cent.
'Parents are the most important influence on a child's life so we must do all we can to provide them with the support and help they need,' she stated. 'There are times when every family may need extra support.'
Ms Hodge added: 'We have to give greater priority to supporting families and parents so that all children are given the best opportunity to fulfil their potential.'
