Spring date for town wireless broadband
30 December 2003
Communities in the Harleston area of Norfolk will soon be able to connect to high-speed broadband internet services following a decision by the directors of the Harleston Partnership to place an order.
The deal to secure broadband coverage in the area is scheduled for completion in the Spring of 2004, and it is believed that the order will be worth in the region of £80,000, subject to receiving a satisfactory contract from their preferred supplier.
The broadband solution will be based on a wireless transmission from a central area hub close to the town itself, with the signal being picked up in 18 surrounding villages and transmitted to users with a roof mounted aerial.
Brian Pearce, the partnership's project officer, said they hoped to be able to offer a substantial discount to the first 200 subscribers to sign up.
Individual subscribers will pay a one-off installation charge of about £100, and a monthly fee of about £25.
