Google News adds RSS and Atom feeds
11 August 2005
Google News has reportedly added RSS and Atom news feeds to its main page.
The RSS feeds will keep users updated whenever an important story breaks and new Google news feeds can also be customised based on users’ personalised Google News pages.
Google product manager Nathan Stoll said that an RSS feed was the most requested feature by Google News users, PC World reports. Users will now be able to request that targeted news content be delivered directly to them and can set up an RSS or Atom feed for customised sections created themselves.
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) or Atom feeds are now available for specific Google News sections, such as entertainment or world news. Google has, as yet, only released the service for Google News editions in English, but has plans to roll it out worldwide.
Google is offering three types of feeds - one that will aggregate all the headlines in a section, a feed based on search terms, and a feed that is based on customisation. The feeds will be offered in the Atom 0.3 and RSS 2.0 standards.
