New search engine Local.com unveiled

US local and national paid-search company Interchange has announced that it has launched the beta version of its new Local.com search engine.
The new local search service reportedly enables consumers to find local businesses, products, and services quickly and easily using Interchange's proprietary Keyword DNA and local web indexing technologies.
The firm claims that Local.com provides highly relevant search results for web users in the United States. Interchange also operates local search services in Europe.
Heath Clarke, Interchange CEO, said: "Our team has combined two distinct technologies in new and unique ways in order to deliver to consumers a new standard in local search. Local.com represents the fusion of directory and the local web. We believe Local.com offers a much more consumer-friendly local-search experience than traditional directory sites, and we do it with current, more accurate and more complete content."
Mr Clarke added that Interchange plans to create a leader in local search with Local.com, with a long list of enhancements scheduled for search algorithms and new features planned. Keyword DNA utilises business characteristics such as location, service area, and business-specific keywords, among other data, to create a unique meta-profile for over 16 million US local businesses.
The Kelsey Group estimates that local search represents about 20 per cent of search queries and predicts that the market will continue to grow, generating around $3.38 billion in revenues by 2009.
