iTunes Japan tops one million downloads on four days
8 August 2005
The new Apple iTunes online music store in Japan has reportedly sold more than a million downloads in just four days.
The iTunes Music Store announced that the best-selling song in Japan was by Japanese group Def Tech and the best-selling album was by the country's Ulfuls.
The iTunes Japan service launched last Thursday and the company's iPod music player has already proved a big hit in Japan. However, the site has not yet signed a deal with Sony's entertainment division to distribute songs published under the label.
Apple CEO Steve Jobs said in a statement: "iTunes has sold twice as many songs in just four days as all the other online music services in Japan sell in one month."
The Apple iTunes service accounts for 82 per cent of all legally downloaded music in the United States and the service is now available in 20 nations.
