UK firm unveils video downloads service

A British company has announced that it is launching a new service for video downloads in a bid to copy the success of music download services, such as Apple's iTunes.
The new Boxoffice365 service from British Internet Broadcasting Company (BiBC) will enable customers to download videos of VHS quality.
However, the company has struggled to persuade major movie companies to get on board, amid fears of piracy and the website is currently only able to offer live comedy and live music videos.
Rental systems are available online for film downloads, but they do not allow consumers to store content. BiBC allows users to download copy protected files and keep them and customers can even transfer the data to one portable video device.
"Film producers have been a bit reticent," BiBC's founder, Paul Hague, told BBC News. "But this is about proving and showing there is a market. I am fairly confident once that they've seen this, they'll come on board."
BiBC aims to add some feature films for purchase by the end of the year. However, analysts have questioned whether this will be possible, as many distributors want to protect DVD sales of movies.
Sony reportedly plans to develop an online film download service, which will initially launch with 500 movies on offer. The BBC is also creating its own broadband service that offers legal downloads of programmes from BBC TV and Radio.
