AOL and Feedster team up for RSS search

1 August 2005

America Online has announced the initial beta release of its new personalised homepage My AOL and is working with leading RSS search engine Feedster to provide a fully customisable portal page

The webpage on the AOL.com portal provides users with the flexibility to access and use the portal based on their specific needs and interests.

A centralised page provides a view of AOL.com's entire suite of features and its new Video Hub offering. The portal also provides a personal "My AOL" page for consumers who want fast access to RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds for updates of specific news and content.

Feedster is providing the capability for My AOL users to search and subscribe to publisher-specific and topic-based feeds that relate to their interests.

"By enabling consumers to create their own personal home page on AOL.com to manage all of their sources of online information in one central location, My AOL provides a convenient solution for a usually time-consuming ritual: visiting multiple websites and blogs multiple times each day to catch up on news," said Kerry Parkins, AOL director of Audience Products.

"By leveraging leading technology from Feedster, AOL is able to provide an easy and fully personalised way for people to discover new RSS feeds and create their own virtually real-time information journal."

Scott Rafer, president and CEO of Feedster, said: "AOL is one of the first to make RSS easy-to-use for mainstream Internet users. With My AOL and My Feeds, AOL is continuing its industry leadership in making new technologies accessible. We're thrilled to be AOL's partner powering My AOL's Feeds and Search. Together, we will demonstrate to AOL audiences and the online industry the growing power of RSS feeds."
