Podscope search engine for podcasts launched
1 August 2005
A new search engine plans to index all podcasts worldwide by the end of August.
Podscope has already indexed more than 20,000 podcasts from more than 3,500 sites
The new search website, launched by TVEyes, is calling on podcasters to submit their sites for indexing.
"Imagine how much less useful a Google search would be if Google only indexed the title of the webpages it returns for a search. It just wouldn’t have the same value as search that includes the entire content of the textual web. Such simplistic search is what’s being provided by every other audio and video search on the internet - with the exception of Podscope," said David J Ives, president and chief executive officer of TVEyes.
"Podscope uses our proprietary speech recognition software to fuel our Spoken Word Index engine, enabling users to see and hear exactly what they are searching for in audio and video files."
Podscope makes every word searchable within a podcast. Users can enter a search term and generate a list of results ranked by a variety of methods to find the most relevant podcast.
TVEyes has been indexing television and radio broadcasts since 1999. Podcasts are downloadable radio programs distributed through RSS feeds.
