Ask Jeeves 'developing new paid search network'
29 July 2005
Search company Ask Jeeves is rumoured to be planning to launch a new Paid Search advertising interface
Reports on the web suggest that the new service will be unveiled on August 1st and will enable advertisers to purchase their own targeted search text ads on Ask Jeeves.
Ask Jeeves currently uses Google AdWords advertising to fill the sponsored listings space and offers premier sponsored listings to larger advertisers, who pay for a static pay-per-click placement. Advertisers on AdWords can purchase sponsored listings on demand for various search terms.
The new Ask Jeeves advertising service is likely to be similar in style to Yahoo! Search Marketing and Google AdWords, though the search engine's contract with Google does not run out until 2007. Ask Jeeves currently gets 70 per cent of its revenue from Google.
Ask Jeeves is the fourth largest search network and speculation about a paid-search system has been growing for months. Ask Jeeves was recently purchased by Barry Diller and the InterActive Corporation.
