Online shopping bonanza predicted
28 November 2003
Christmas shoppers are set to break online sales records this year, predicts the Royal Mail, in a £3 billion retail explosion.
The postal service's figures indicate that online spend during the four weeks prior to Christmas Day is set to be double that recorded last year, reports Silicon.com.
A year total of £15 billion has been predicted for 2003, double 2002's total.
Forrester Research provided the figures. The company's retail analyst Rebecca Jennings explained the study's results in a statement:
'With UK online retail set to grow 46 per cent this year, and another 40 per cent in 2004, it's never been more important for retailers, both catalogue and online, to be prepared for the seasonal rush.'
The Mail's head of goods distribution, Ross Drake, said the service expects to deliver 40 million of the 70 million goods ordered over the internet.
