AOL Search goes mobile
28 July 2005
America Online has announced that it has started a public beta test of search services.
The internet giant said this week that the search program, targeted at mobile devices, such as smartphones and PDAs, with internet browsing technology automatically adapts search results using technology from Israeli firm InfoGin.
The mobile search engine is integrated with AOL's vertical search offerings and will enable users to search online for content, local retail information, and comparison shopping.
The service will initially be available on mobile handsets and any Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) phone in the United States, via AOL Search, Pinpoint Shopping Search and AOL Yellow Pages. AOL said in a statement that the Mobile AOL Search Service provides access to virtually all webpages, not just those on sites that are WAP-enabled.
"We have 'Right-Sized the Internet' for mobile screens, giving users the power to search or shop for anything they need," said Himesh Bhise, vice president and general manager of AOL Mobile.
