25 July 2005

Sedo has announced that the address website.com has been sold for $750,000, making it the most expensive domain of 2005.

Online domain names marketplace Sedo received more than fifty serious bids from companies in the domain name, web hosting, and web design industries.

Matt Bentley, CEO of Sedo.com, said: "The $750,000 price tag of Website.com represents the highest-valued sale in the domain name market this year, and Sedo is honoured to serve as the marketplace that matched its seller with an eager buyer.

"By utilising Sedo's premium domain brokerage program, website.com was able to maximize interest among domain buyers, enabling the seller to get the optimal price for a premium domain name."

The sale of website.com was supported by Sedo's Premium Domain Brokerage Program, which is dedicated to exclusively selling premium domains that inherently generate high-traffic and high revenues.

Sedo brokers generated interest in website.com by distributing news that the domain was for sale through major forums and media outlets, as well as directly contacting many industry leaders to alert them of the opportunity.
