New York jobs search engine unveiled
18 July 2005
The Metropolitan Development Association has launched a new online search site that offers users fast, free access to thousands of job listings in New York.
The site, www.essential nyjobs.com, covers the 12-county central Upstate region and the association said in a statement that it is part of its long-term strategy for attracting talented people to the region.
The association is a non-profit planning and research group based in Syracuse, New York, and the website was created with a $50,000 grant from Bank of America.
The search engine works in a similar way to Google and other search services by sorting through jobs postings on hundreds of company sites and websites run by the state Department of Labor and services such as Syracuse.com and Davincitimes.com.
Users type in keywords such as chemical engineer or laboratory technician and the search engine quickly produces a list of available openings. Searchers can then click on results to go to the site where the information on the job was posted. The website is free to use and free for any company to have its job listings included.
"Helping companies create new jobs has, and always will be, our primary mission," said Irwin Davis, president and chief executive officer. "But today we are equally focused on fighting a war for talent with every region in this country."
