Yahoo! unveils personal search service
30 June 2005
Yahoo! has announced the launch of a new search service that enables users to share their personal web index of pages and links.
My Web 2.0 is in beta testing mode and is available on a first-come first-serve basis to a limited number of users.
The first version of My Web was launched in April and allowed users to save and annotate webpages and keep a history of their search queries and the results they clicked on.
Yahoo! said at the initial launch that My Web was intended for users who were interested in creating a personal web index tailored to their tastes and interests. The service also enables users to share saved results via email, syndication, and a public webpage, or link blog.
The My Web service now offers friends, co-workers, and peers the opportunity to share their indexes.
"My Web 2.0 was designed from the ground up as a social search engine. It can search across trusted networks of people and communities, and complements [general] Web searching," said Eckart Walther, vice president of product management for Yahoo Search.
