Yahoo buys BT entertainment sites
29 October 2003
Yahoo Europe has announced the purchase of BT Openworld's dotmusic and Games Domain websites in a bid to bolster its range of online services.
The deal leaves Yahoo in charge of content on the new BT Yahoo portals, two months after the launch of the BT Yahoo venture.
It is expected that the deal will allow Yahoo to capture a larger slice of the rapidly expanding European online music market, having already launched a music download in the continent.
The service introduced by Yahoo during the summer, named 'Launch', boasts one of the web's largest collection of downloadable music videos.
Napster, AOL and iTunes are also set to launch similar services throughout the continent within the next six months.
