New search index for Yahoo!
21 June 2005
Internet giant Yahoo! has announced that it is launching a new version of the Yahoo! Search index.
The search index is the mainstay of any search engine and web analysts will be examining the new index closely to see how it measures up.
Yahoo! made the annoucement on its search blog, claiming that users should be seeing more of their pages in Yahoo! Search.
In Tim Mayer's post about the launch, he suggested that the new index would cause ranking fluctuations, which are normal when such changes are introduced. Mr Mayer is inviting users who have questions and concerns about the new index to contact Yahoo!'s feedback service.
In an entry named 'Second Weather Report: Yahoo! Launching New Search Index Tonight', he stated: "We will be making changes to the index tonight so you should be seeing more of your pages in the index as well as some fluctuations in the rankings of results from previous searches."
