Reuters signs deal with Singingfish
16 May 2005
Reuters has announced a deal with AOL's Singingfish video and audio search engine.
The agreement will see Reuters' extensive video content, including hundreds of breaking and archived news clips, made available on the multimedia search engine.
Singingfish allows web users to browse millions of multimedia files in categories including news, finance, entertainment and sports and it can be accessed from any internet-connected PC or handheld device.
By indexing its breaking and archived video news clips on Singingfish, Reuters will drive additional traffic to its website, where it posts over 250 video clips every day. Viewers can access a range of coverage including world, business, fashion and entertainment news, as well as choosing from anchored shows, narrated reports, unedited natural sound footage and interviews with CEOs and senior business leaders.
Singingfish handles well over 200 million video and audio searches each month across its network and has experienced 100 per cent growth over the past year.
Azhar Rafee, executive vice president of the Reuters Consumer Service, said: "With broadband expected to be in more homes than cable and satellite within five years, the use of video over IP will continue to rocket. The challenge for news programmers is to make it easier for people to get straight to the video they want to see. Search has a key role to play here as it has become one of the most common ways that people access online content."
"This is a wonderful addition to our video search index and will enrich the breadth and depth of the multimedia experience for web users," Singingfish vice president and general manager Karen Howe added.
